Walking Vacations
Bute is only fifteen miles long and five miles wide as it widest point, so most sites of interest are easily accessible on foot. The Ardyne is well located for taking advantage of many walking routes and if you don't have your own maps we can let you borrow or buy guides from us.
The West Island Way, the first long distance way-marked path on a Scottish island encompasses some of the best walking that the Isle of Bute has to offer. It embraces a variety of landscapes, seashore, moorland, farmland and forest, which unite in a continually changing prospect of Bute and its place in the World. The natural history, geography, geology and ancient history of the island are revealed at every turn - or so it seems!
The route is well signposted and only a few sections follow the roadside but the roads are not busy and there is usually a a grassy verge alongside. Rothesay lies at the mid point of the route so easily splits the walk into two great days out.
If you are unlucky enough to be rained on whilst out walking we have good drying facilities to dry out your clothes and boots, whilst you relax.
